Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
This woven cotton rug will absorb your perspiration and help you maintain your poses without slipping. It is popular for Power Yoga, Ashtanga Yoga and Bikram Yoga. Practice rugs are widely used in yoga classes in Mysore, India, where Ashtanga is taught. We recommend using one of our Tapas Basic or Original Tapas Mats under your rug to keep it from moving on the floor. Measures 28 inches x 74 inches, 100% Cotton. Now with new color options with green, purple, multi-stripe in earth tones. All blankets have pretty stripes.

5 out of 5 stars Good texture, basic, practical   April 30, 2010

Always wanted to give the yoga rug a shot. I practice a lot of Ashtanga Yoga, and was tired of getting my feet stuck on my vinyasa's. This thing feels so much better on my skin than a regular mat. Be warned, however, that it is (obviously) less sticky, and your more challenging poses will be made that much harder. Also, rugs have almost zero padding, and take some getting used to for poses that put lots of pressure on shoulders, neck, and head. Be careful. I use a 3 mm mat underneath my rug when I know I'll be upside down.

This mysore rug is also available on other yoga-specific sites at twice the price of this one sold through Amazon. Works in conjunction with a standard sticky mat, but for those who slip/slide on the standard mat, or practice hot yoga, this allows you to perform well without slipping/sliding everywhere.

5 out of 5 stars Good product for `hot' yoga fans   August 3, 2008

If you practice `hot' yoga, you will need a product like this, as things get dangerously slippery on the mat during these classes. Does the trick. Keeps a stable, dry surface under you so you can stay in the moment.

5 out of 5 stars Near Perfect Yoga Rug   June 20, 2009
Brian Bridson (Michigan, USA)
I've been using this Yoga rug for a few weeks. I love the fact that it's 100% cotton and I love the size; I use it on top of my Yoga mat and it's a couple of inches longer and wider than the mat, which is perfect. Being 6'1, this gives me just enough room that I can stretch out in Shavasana and still keep my head and feet on the rug. I also like the additional cushioning the rug on top of the mat gives me. I purchased this rug because my hands and feet would slip on my mat once I built up a sweat. As other reviews have pointed out, this rug is slippery when dry. I've found that I need to fold back the top and bottom one-third until I build up a sweat, then I fold them out. I like the Sunshine colors, so I've washed the rug in cold water on a gentle cycle with a product designed to prevent colors from fading, and then hang-dried it. So far it has laundered fine. I guess my only slightly negative comment would be that this rug is a little heavy to carry back and forth to class. But you really wouldn't want it any lighter and still stay in place during your practice. The Yogitoes skidless towel would be another product to consider; it's lightweight but far more expensive than the Hugger Mugger rug, and would not offer the additional cushioning.

5 out of 5 stars Hugger Mugger Yoga Rug is a great addition to your practice.   October 19, 2009

Love it. Keep a spray bottle handy to mist the rug and you will notice a better grip and greater comfort during your practice.
